FIC IDEA #486

Why is it always (and only) me getting these ideas? I have an insatiable craving for Marie Antoinette/Manon Lescaut fic, but absolutely no one in the world has written anything for this insane x-over. Which means, I'll have to write it myself, if I really want it.

It makes so much sense, though?? If you move Manon Lescaut fifty years ahead in time, they'd be contemporaries. And if we imagine that she somehow gets herself snuck into the royal court after her first break-up with Des Grieux and meets Marie Antoinette, living the most excessive, extravagant life she could imagine... She would never have to be "short of bread" again and thus, she can be truly loving. And Marie Antoinette would love her spirit! That Polignac lady should be keeping an eye out for competition! They could dance and gamble and eat cake together. And as she gets more and more involved with Manon, Marie Antoinette would have to admit that the old king had a pretty good idea with his Madame du Barry affair. Oh, the double standards. Wouldn't exactly make Marie Antoinette more popular at court (or with the people) either.

I wish somewhere in the world there was just one person who lived inside my head and wrote these things I think up, because I'd love to read it, but man, do I not want to do the work of writing it.

Since I'm noticing a trend with my writings atm (fanfic, obscure canons), I went ahead and made a community where I can dump all the obscurities in collection, it's even named after it! obscurenesses. I've already made an overview entry of the fics I've posted to AO3. Still undecided whether I'll keep posting stuff there, but with some things I might.

Decided I needed a "smaller" project besides the Irene Holm X-mas calendar, so might try and write that Marie Antoinette/Manon Lescaut fic after all, since no one's out there to pick my brain and do it for me. Found an old prompt from one of my genprompt_bingo cards, "colors of the flag", so am thinking of making it a three-parter with a section inspired by each color in the French tricolore. Still need to be clear on the timeline, rewatch the film and read the beginning of the Prévost novel, but most importantly, I really need to revisit the ballet.

The Royal Danish Ballet's aesthetically ugly as fuck but very well-danced version is up on YouTube, still. Might go give the first act a rewatch. Part 1 & part 2. Just because I love Alexandra Lo Sardo's Manon a lot.

Also, this playlist is going to run on repeat until this fic is out of my system, I swear.

Am I gonna do this? Yes. Yes, I think I may be doing this. Could go either for the Marie Antoinette/Manon Lescaut fic (both fandoms counting as small) or the Irene Holm one which no one else has written anything for before, so... Well, actually all my fandoms are small, so I shouldn't have any trouble picking and choosing, no matter what I might be thinking of writing for. Ballet fandoms here I come??

Please consider jumping this challenge if you have any small (max. 2000 fics, I think is the requirement) fandoms that need some quality writing boosts and love! I love reading about obscure fandoms, it makes me endlessly happy.

Well, it means I should probably wait starting with the writing until I've signed up, so I don't cheat with any WIPs... Ah! Just looked over the rules and actually, I'm allowed to start writing, I just can't have posted the fic anywhere beforehand and will have to write 10.000 additional words to what I've already written by October 1st. Hmm...

This is exciting! I hope I can participate! It would be a first for me.

Getting art to go with your fic would be pretty cool, too...
