Someone I'd really like to see portray Odette/Odile? Fumi Kaneko. Not much for paying money to see Liam Scarlett's version of the ballet, but if the RDB should ever get the brilliant idea of inviting her over to dance in our production? I'd be in line! Look at her beautiful lines, her amazing expression that extends to her entire body. I'm such a fan.

ODETTE'S VARIATION - J'AIME CRANDALL
Although she isn't the most natural Odette, J'aime is very regal, but also very subdued, a tragic heroine in the most physical sense. She is one of the (few) RDB Odettes I haven't seen live on stage, and if I have, I've forgotten which speaks volumes in itself. I saw her in the cinema relay of the ballet that the RDB arranged in 2015 and that was their first attempt at sending live to theatres around the country, which showed. They really went all in and it's, cinematographically, a beautiful production. Strong dancing from both leads, but not much feeling. Pretty, but flat. I wish I had a similarly beautifully filmed version of Holly's Odette, that would be fierce!

Short answer: not much. Long answer: not much.
Rubbish day, pretty much. Tea is good, tea keeps the world turning. I'm playing around with Odette's journal, having gotten a burst of inspiration, so maybe I'll manage to write a poem today and then, I can go to bed and forget the past twelwe hours even existed.

Ballet, ballet, ballet.
Considering picking up Odette again, she's one of my oldest muses and I do love her, but she's failed me the last couple of times I've tried (meaning, I've failed her). However, having read some poetry today, I'm getting a sense that I should go about her character differently, so I might do a canon rewatch (thank you, RDB, for keeping Swan Lake up on your streaming site) and just see where that takes me.
That's the plan.
