wednesday.

The sun has begun shining from a clear, blue sky the past few days, making it feel like it's really spring. While looking for pictures for a fic project I'm working on at the moment, I came across these two gorgeous pictures from Seville, Spain and one is dedicated to the sun outside, the other - the one with the flamenco women - is dedicated to my friend, C., whom I haven't seen since before the pandemic, but who dances and teaches flamenco, always posting beautiful pictures of herself in those gorgeous dresses to Facebook. They're my mood pictures for the day, because today is tough and tomorrow will be tougher still, so I need to look forward. Summer. Vacation. Those types of things.

CARMEN SUITE - MAYA PLISETSKAYA
With the current war against Ukraine, I don't know whether it's bad taste sharing a video of a Russian ballet production, but I've deliberately chosen the 70's production rather than the more current one that's also available on YouTube, because these dancers have literally nothing to do with what's going on in Russia today. Although I personally prefer Mats Ek's Carmen over any other production, this version features a couple of elements I really like, for example the inclusion of Fate as its own character, where in Ek's production, the dancer that dances Muerte also dances the mother and the fiancee. Besides that, Plisetskaya is a good match to Ana Laguna's Carmen, the two are very different, but have given the character the same free spirit which I think is very impressive. No other Russian dancer of today that I've seen dance the role, does it as well as Plisetskaya did (perhaps minus Vishneva). So if you have an hour to spare, this is a good way to spend it.

Last week was Easter vacation and the first half of it I spent with a lot of plans and then the second half doing almost nothing at all. That hasn't been good for my system at all. Besides that, I have my first meeting with my new internship workplace tomorrow, so there's a lot of nerves and some old-buried trauma associated with these things that are making themselves known, so this week I haven't been able to relax at all either. I'm really just trying to keep my head above water here.
The way I'm doing that is by listening to a lot of music, watching a lot of ballet and musicals and writing whenever I get a burst of energy, which I do a couple of times throughout the day. I'm working on a couple of different things:
My contribution to
Writing Carmen fic, I'm listening to Stromae's new album on repeat, Multitude. It's amazing and really captures the spirit of this woman. It's also just very therapeutic to listen to. So good.

Besides tagging around a little with Carmen, I'm mostly keeping to private musebox RP these days with some OCs that K. and I are having a lot of fun with. We really got started over Easter, so now we're just watching the ball rolling. I love feeling how we grow and develop from character to character we play. This kind of RP we couldn't have done a year ago. Really grateful that I have that. And her.
Also working for a fic for my OC which will be going in the same collection as the others on AO3.
