UNTITLED by S.

the girl
used to wonder how
the world would look as
seen through an amber nugget

the light dispersing
into glimmers of brandy droplets
and a rainfall of champagne
specks of gold
in the mines of her pupils

darkness kept
at arm's length
by these dancing flames
in her blood through her veins

adrenaline

a skip of the heart
take this second of life
with a grain of salted caramel

the girl
used to wonder how
time would taste when clinging
to the corner of her mouth

upturn

she releases into space
all the orange hues
she holds

fire in her feet
sunset upon her figure

Guess which one is me. Photo from a couple of years ago, visiting that childhood museum I talked about. My dad made me imitate the various statues he took pictures of me next to. I'm not a natural actress, obviously, but it's pretty spot on, right? I think this is a bronze sculpture by famous Danish artist, Anna Ancher who resided in Skagen most of her career (early 20th century) and I have no idea how the museum in Holstebro managed to get it. Art travels through strange channels sometimes. Funny, but nostalgic thing is, a couple of years prior, I'd taken my grandmother to the same museum and made her pose next to the same statue and now, she's two years dead. Time does strange things to us. Life does.

SLEEPING BEAUTY, ROSE ADAGIO - FUMI KANEKO

Ok, I'll admit, I originally looked this clip up because it's a famous ballet birthday, Aurora celebrating coming of age and it's cute and pretty - but I ended up watching it and just being blown away. Fumi is amazing! She danced this role with 24 hours to prepare (she was understudy for the ballerina who was supposed to dance it and when she got injured, she had to step in - her actual debut was weeks away) and this is one of the most amazing rose adagios I've seen. Wow. Sooooo pretty and sooooo controlled. She has such a presence on stage, Fumi. Such maturity, yet sweetness. Someday I'll vow to go see her in something.

I've had a quiet day. I've also had a birthday. I'm turning 34 today. Age doesn't matter overly much to me and I hate the attention of birthdays, but today has been lovely. K. woke me up to delicious breakfast and presents from her and her parents. I got a pair of earrings and a gift card for clothes that'll buy me at least a couple of good jeans. The earrings are my new favourites. I got a dress from K's parents and it's super soft and comfy and pretty, aquamarine and yellow. Very spring-y. My parents called and it was a couple of nice talks, nothing too strained. I was happy with that. Other than that, lots of delicious food (had my birthday dinner yesterday, because the takeout place I wanted us to try wasn't open on Sundays - wienersnitzels, very delicious), some naps and some writing. I've felt better today than I have in a while, but also a bit... unsettled, I can't put my finger on it.

I'm just waiting for it not to be my birthday anymore, I guess.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN FANDOM/RP
New day, new character? These originals come to me by the hour these days. She already existed, but then I rediscovered her and now I'm curious to see whether she's the one that'll get me started on something I actually wanna finish. Meet Amandine - not Duval, not that one, this is another one who got the name first. She's the love interest of Marie who existed first, but my interest in the original Armand has me questioning whether I'll have more luck going for the same approach: not to play the lady of but watch the lady of from the sideline, from the outside. Paint a portrait rather than play the part. We'll see. So far I have a tracklist of song titles I need to write poems/lyrics for (mock French-to-English style, so I don't actually have to rhyme, I am not a rhymer) and that might be my project tomorrow where I'll no doubt need to recuperate with something lightweight.
