november 4th.

The door to his bedchambers close behind her soundlessly. She is practically naked, her thin, little underthing leaving nothing to the imagination aside from how she imagines me. My thin, little underthing is the same, our nipples are dark and hard beneath the muslin. Slowly, I cross the room, from the dusty, shadowy corner to the middle where the light penetrates me as if it were some man, laying his gold out before my feet in offering.

“What a hypocrite you are,” she replies, unfazed. We are standing a few feet apart, her skin gives off a scent of dusty heat and fluids, ruffled bedlinen and the Sunday morning sun that kisses ankles poking out from beneath duvets. Her beloved left earlier, he had more important business to attend to, as he always will have.

Surely, she should mind her business, too.

“All art is autobiographical, the pearl is the oyster's autobiography.” — Federico Fellini

This quote showed up at the end of a writing sprint I did in the Danish NaNoWriMo server today. I quickly saved it for later, because it really spoke to me. I was going to say, maybe not so much for this particular writing project, but then I had to pause and reconsider. Although many aspects of Marguerite's and Manon's story have little to do with my life, there are aspects of both these characters' personalities, lives and circumstances that speak to me for various reasons and I think working with them as I do right now is theraupeutic in its own way. It says more about me, perhaps, that I would be willing to or even able to admit without this story to say it for me.

So, in the end, all my writing is autobiographical, just as Fellini claimed and that was why I saved that quote. It's truth for me personally.

WRITING progress

I have written 1788 words today, more than any of the other days. I have been on such a roll, from waking up early and just spitting out 600 words to sitting at the library again and spitting out another 600, sprint after sprint... This is writing when it is a complete joy.

I won't be writing more on the story tonight, but I have some canon reviewing to do and that should make me ready to get going on the next leg of this writing journey tomorrow.

WRITING thoughts

I finished my first chapter today! I believe this will be either a three-parter or a four-parter, depending on the necessity for an epilogue, but I'm kinda hoping for a three-parter, so there's a part for each act of the Lady of the Camellias ballet. I'm very excited to get started on chapter two tomorrow, to see the relationship between Manon and Marguerite develop and grow.

So far, in the first chapter, there has been a lot of animosity and the first out of, I believe, two sex scenes got written in my usual superficial, more poetic and emotional than pornographic style. But it was an important step in these two characters' relation, so taking them to the next phase is really, honestly very exciting.

Can't wait! Is it time to sleep soon, so I can wake up in the morning and write more??
